How to Reduce Exam Stress

How to Reduce Exam Stress is an introductory workshop for students in Years 10, 11 and 12.

Exams themselves are stressful enough. When we add the stresses of the preparation period - practice exams, comparisons to peers, the expectations of others, and the fear of failure – we can easily appreciate the adverse effects that this may have on the wellbeing of a young adult. Excessive stress over a prolonged period is harmful to student health and performance. Learning how to better manage the unavoidable stresses of the examination process can provide students with a sense of control over their future, and enables them to approach upcoming events with greater confidence.

In this workshop, students will:

  • Learn about the stress response and the sympathetic nervous system
  • Learn how to identify their stress triggers around the examination process
  • Discover the relationship between stress and performance, and
  • Practice simple mind management techniques to remain calm under pressure and perform well.

Workshop materials include printed notes and mp3 audio of the mind-management techniques practiced during the session.
