Medicare Rebates

Medicare rebates are available for both Learn to Relax Personal and Learn to Relax Group programs with GP referral under the Better Access to Mental Health Care program.

The Better Access to Mental Health Care program entitles people with a recognised mental health condition (anxiety, depression etc) to receive a medicare rebate on up to 12 individual AND 12 group sessions per calendar year with a Medicare-registered Mental Health Worker.  A GP Mental Health Care Plan and referral is required.  Under exceptional circumstances you may also be entitled to six additional individual sessions.

For further information about the Better Access to Mental Health Care program consult with your doctor or click here to go to the Department of Health and Ageing website.

How do I know if I am eligible for a rebate?

Start by talking to your GP about your health concerns and ask about your eligibility for the Better Access to Mental Health Care program.  If eligible, your GP will complete a GP Mental Health Care Plan.  The plan may contain referrals to relevant mental health practitioners.  This page includes all the information your GP needs to make a referral to Learn to Relax Please print this page and give it to your GP to assist with plan preparation.

How much is the rebate?

For Learn to Relax Personal programs the rebate is $67.50 per session ($405 for six-week program).  For Learn to Relax Group programs the rebate is $17.20 per session ($103.20 for six-week program).

**Please note: A rebate may only be claimed for sessions actually attended.

What does my GP need to know?

To make a referral, your GP will need the following information:

  • Kylie Shacklock BSW MA MAASW, Senior Therapist at Learn to Relax, is a registered Mental Health Social Worker providing individual and group ‘focused psychological strategies – social worker’ under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Program.
  • Medicare Provider number: 2999032B.
  • MBS item numbers 80160 (individual) and 80170 (group).

What does my referral need to say?

Referrals must be signed, dated, and made specifically to Kylie Shacklock.  A referral must state:

  1. the number of sessions of referral, and
  2. that a GP Mental Health Care Plan (MBS item 2710) has been completed.

Do I need my referral prior to beginning a Learn to Relax program?

Yes.  You must have your referral and supply a copy to us prior to commencement of the program.

What if I already have a GP Mental Health Care Plan? Do I need another one?

No. All you need to do is see your GP and obtain a referral to Kylie under your existing plan. Please check how many claimable sessions you have remaining for this calendar year. Remember that under exceptional circumstances you may be entitled to an additional six individual sessions. See your GP to determine your eligibility.

Do I need to provide Learn to Relax with a copy of my GP Mental Health Care Plan?

No.  We only need a copy of the referral.

What happens on completion of the program?

Kylie will provide your GP with a report following your completion of the program.  She will also be available for consultation with your GP throughout your program.

When can I claim my rebate?

For Learn to Relax Personal programs a receipt will be issued for claiming purposes on completion of each session.  For Learn to Relax Group programs a receipt will be issued on completion of the six-week program.
