A time-honored deep-relaxation technique developed by Dr Edmund Jacobsen in the 1920's, Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) involves tensing and releasing various muscle groups in time with the rhythm of the natural breath.
PMR develops awareness of the difference between tension and relaxation, and gently releases chronic muscle tension. This technique is highly effective in the management of anxiety, high blood pressure (hypertension), chronic pain, headache and migraine.
Try using the technique before sleep. Enjoy the feeling of your body sinking deeply into the mattress as you consciously release each muscle group.

Contraindications: If you have high blood pressure avoid holding the breath in. Simply tense during the in-breath and release on the out-breath.
